Project Lead: Dr E.Dare

Recognising the need for greater public understanding of how machine learning and other algorithms work, this project proposes to create a Mozilla Hubs and mixed reality AI themed amusement park,, designed for visitors to transparently experience machine learning algorithms and data processing mechanisms.
We are proposing to build a virtual fun fair installation in which the algorithms which underpin AI (Machine Learning) are made into fun fair rides, for example ‘ride a neural network’, experience how connections are evolved and then used to make choices, as you swerve along a roller coaster, will you turn left or right or go straight ahead? The neural net will decide based on the classification of the cart you are in (or your singing, clothing colours or gestures etc).
More detail:
A series of fun fair rides will introduce participants in a highly accessible way to the most common machine learning processes, we might also make transparent the underlying mechanisms of the Blockchain, such as Append Only Arrays, to demonstrate by riding along such an array, how much fuel is needed to retrieve information. Is it sustainable? What do other visitors think? The AI-musement park will build and curate the collective responses of visitors, but also offer residencies and performance space, for example, a dance group might perform a musical dance routine showing the patterns of a decision tree or neural network, artists might investigate identity and avatars, fakes and trolls, computer scientists might show how GPS uses AI to plan our journeys or create computer vision. As the project grows it may go in many directions, for overlapping and diverse audiences/collaborators, children, teenagers, designers, academics, activists, curators (etc), community groups, developers.
